The Lady

Bringing the Past to Life
About me
My name is Emma, and I have worked in Heritage and Tourism since 2004 - I graduated in French and German, but History has always been my first love (evidenced by how much History I managed to wedge into my Languages degree!)
I was privileged to start my career at Hampton Court Palace, training with Past Pleasures Ltd. as a Costumed Interpreter. The company motto was 'I can trick you into learning with a laugh' from Gilbert and Sullivan's The Yeoman of the Guard, and it's been my guiding philosophy ever since. History should be fun!
Since then I have given presentations, guided tours and education sessions for Historic Royal Palaces, The National Trust, English Heritage, Chatsworth House, Macclesfield Silk Museums, Hever Castle and Clevedon Pier.
Education Visits
A character from the past will come to your school to lead a workshop on one of the following subjects:
- Ancient Egypt
- The Tudors
- Great Fire of London
- Industrial Revolution
- Florence Nightingale
- Victorian Seaside
- First & Second World War
Each workshop includes storytelling and roleplay, object handling, craft activities and toys & games.
Workshops are suitable for classes of up to 35 pupils in Key Stages 1 & 2.
Education visits can be booked as either half or full day bookings.
The Important Bits...
I have Public Liability Insurance, and an enhanced Child Workforce DBS certificate which is registered on the Update Service. I have also attended Safeguarding training. All education sessions have Risk Assessments; these can be emailed upon request.
- I try to keep education sessions as flexible as possible, so please do let me know if there are particular learning objectives to cover and I'll weave these through the workshop.
- The only items I'll ever ask schools to provide are blank paper and colouring pens/pencils, I bring everything else I need with me.
- All of the workshops are classroom based and designed to fit in with the school timetable.
- Prices are available upon request, and will be inclusive of mileage etc. with no hidden costs.
