The Lady

Time Traveller

Bringing the Past to Life

About me

My name is Emma, and I have worked in Heritage and Tourism since 2004 - I graduated in French and German, but History has always been my first love (evidenced by how much History I managed to wedge into my Languages degree!)

I was privileged to start my career at Hampton Court Palace, training with Past Pleasures Ltd. as a Costumed Interpreter. The company motto was 'I can trick you into learning with a laugh' from Gilbert and Sullivan's The Yeoman of the Guard, and it's been my guiding philosophy ever since. History should be fun!

Since then I have given presentations, guided tours and education sessions for Historic Royal Palaces, The National Trust, English Heritage, Chatsworth House, Macclesfield Silk Museums and Hever Castle.

Education Visits

A character from the past will come to your school to lead a workshop on one of the following time periods:

  • Ancient Egypt
  • Tudor
  • Victorian Industrial Revolution
  • First & Second World War

Each workshop will include storytelling and roleplay, object handling, craft activities and toys and games.

Workshops are suitable for classes of up to 35 pupils in Key Stages 1 & 2.

Education visits can be booked as either half or full day bookings.

Presentations

I specialise in Tudor and Stuart, Victorian and Second World War history, with presentations on the following themes:

  • Dressing a Tudor Queen
  • Henry VIII - Boy to Man: the Making of a Tyrant
  • Dressing a Victorian Lady from the 1880s
  • Female Victorian Egyptologists
  • A Victorian Christmas
  • The History of the Auxiliary Territorial Service
  • The role of Women during the Second World War

The Important Bits...

I have Public Liability Insurance, and an enhanced Child Workforce DBS certificate which is registered on the Update Service. I have also attended Safeguarding training. All education sessions have Risk Assessments; these can be emailed upon request.

  • I try to keep education sessions as flexible as possible, so please do let me know if there is a particular aspect being studied and I'll try my best to help!
  • The only items I ask schools to provide are blank paper and colouring pens/pencils, I'll bring everything else required.
  • Prices are available upon request, and will be inclusive of mileage etc. with no hidden costs.
